What is Journey?

Journey is the children’s ministry of Center Pointe Community Church, where kids from birth through fifth grade learn about God while having fun and making friends.  All of the staff at Journey strive to make it a place your kids can’t wait to come to!  We don’t think parents should ever have to “drag their kids to church.”  Our God is amazing and exciting and so when we get together as part of God’s family we celebrate that in amazing and exciting ways!  Whether we’re making slime, singing at the top of our lungs, acting out a Bible story, or digging for buried treasures, we are having a blast learning what it means to be a follower of Jesus! 

 At Journey we have eight values that we always work to achieve.  We believe Journey should be a place that is . . .

 Fun  Let’s face it—nobody wants to be bored, and church should be the last place on earth that’s boring!  The Bible is filled with stories of powerful, awesome, creative, and thrilling things God has done—and we believe God still wants to do those kinds of things in our lives today!

 Safe  The world we live in today isn’t always a safe place, but the church should be.  At Journey we are committed to a high standard of safety and security measures to ensure the physical safety of every child.  We also believe in being an emotionally and spiritually safe place for kids.  Journey is a place where kids are built up, never torn down. 

Bible Based  As Christians we believe that God still guides us today through the Bible.  When making decisions about what kind of friends to be, what to do in a tough situation, and how to treat others, we know that God wants us to make the right choices.  God has given us the Bible and God has also given us minds to figure out what the Bible has to do with us today, a church to show us how the Bible can be used to make good decisions, and experiences in our lives that help us understand that we can trust God.

Creative  At Journey we have a great message to tell kids about God’s incredible love that’s been around for thousands of years.  That doesn’t mean kids need to go through a time warp to join us, because God has given us many creative ways to share our timeless message.  Whether it’s through interesting videos, fast-paced games, larger-than life drama, or wacky science experiments, kids are bound to come away from Journey having learned some pretty cool stuff in some exciting new ways.

Relevant  The Bible has some pretty incredible stories to tell . . .  lions’ dens, traveling across hot deserts, walking on water . . . no matter where you look you’re bound to find something interesting.  These are more than just fascinating tales; these stories can teach us about our lives right now!  All the things we do at Journey relate to our lives today. 

Relational  Scooby Doo & Shaggy, Tom & Jerry, Pinky & the Brain – everybody needs a friend.  God designed us to be with other people.  At Journey we intentionally set aside time to hang out with a small group of friends so we can build friendships with each other and help each other on our adventures.  The coolest thing is that when we spend time with our friends talking about what is really important to us and to God, we also become better friends with God.
